Inspection of large tubes in the production line

TUB.EC 300 eddy current test system for the automatic inspection of hot-rolled tubes for surface defects (cracks, scales, pores)


Some technical data:

• Range of diameter of the tubes that are to be tested: 50 to 300 mm
• Surface condition: hot-rolled, drawn, peeled and ground
• Length of the tubes: 3 to 15 m (and more)
• Straightness: due to its flexibility the inspection system is able to handle great tolerances in straightness as long as these can be rotated.
• Surface speed of the tubes: continuously adjustable up to 1.5 m/sec
• Axial speed of the inspection carriage: continuously adjustable up to 1.5 m/sec
• Inspection standards: The TUB.EC 300 ET-test system fulfils all international standards for eddy current inspections
• Automatic good/bad evaluation
• Color marking true to the location lengthwise
• Linear measurement featuring an axial B-scan of the defects on the display


Integrated systems and accessories:

ELOTEST PL500 eddy current test instrument with 6 master channels. The latest in eddy current technology. Each master channel works with an external multiplexer each of which controls 8 probes. The high multiplexing rate of 32 kHz permits dynamic inspections with surface speeds of up to 1.5 m/sec.

Probe holder with 48 sensors for a continuous scan of the tube surface. The sensors are arranged to overlap resulting in a continuous track width of 500 mm. During each rotation of the tube the probe holder advances 500 mm.

Mechanical handling system to rotate the tubes that are to be inspected and to move the carriage with the 48 eddy current sensors along. Operator panel, control cabinet and software to control all system functions (Rotating the tubes, longitudinal movement of the carriage along the axis of the tube, automatic evaluation of the defects etc.).
